About Île des deux Cocos
Île de deux Cocos is a small island, placed at the edge of the lagoon of the Blue Bay Marine Park, in the South-East of Mauritius.
Along the westside of the island, not far away from the mainland, a small passage leads from the inside lagoon into the deep blue ocean. At this place the current is very strong. Another highlight is, that huge waves are hitting against the riff on the south side, while the white sandy beaches on the north side, are lieing quietly in the bay of Blue Bay.
During the term of office, of Sir Henry Hesketh Joudou Bell, the 21st Governor of Mauritius (1916-1924), he let built a 252 m² Moroccan-Style Villa on the island. The Villa was completed around 1920. From then on, he not only lived on the island, but also carried out his official duties from there.
Today, the island is uninhabited and is privately owned by the LUX Resort Group. Accordingly to mauritian law, the access to all buildings and facilities is forbidden, but the access to all beaches remains permitted to the public.
